Join us for a presentation from John McTighe, Background Decision at SIR (Strategic Information Resources) on background checks. 

The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) has had an outstanding number of lawsuits occur within recent years due to technical violations against hiring managers and employers. This presentation will cover the key steps to take to ensure compliance, what to do to avoid technical violations and prevent litigation. We will also take a look at various local laws in effect for the state of NY.

John McTighe leads the background screening division, Background Decision, at SIR. John is SAFC II Advanced FCRA Certified by the National Consumer Reporting Association in both the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions ACT (FACTA) and is a frequent speaker on the topic of pre-employment screening compliance and assessing job applicants. John is also an active member of the Government Relations Committees of both the National Association of Professional Background Screeners (NAPBS) and National Consumer Reporting Association (CDIA).

This program has also been approved for 1 general re-certification credits through the HR Certification Institute.

We will also have a  presentation from Terrence Wilson, Safety & Risk Manager for Ethan Allen Workforce Solutions. He will offer the perspective of the "end user" and discuss how Ethan Allen makes decisions based on backgrounds. Ethan Allen Workforce Solutions offers temporary staffing in administrative, medical, and industrial positions throughout the Hudson Valley. They order somewhere in the ballpark of 1000 background checks per year.  This requires them to be extremely knowledgeable in proper FCRA and NYS regulations & procedures. The other part of their business is Ethan Allen HR Services which is a full-service Professional Employer Organization, and administrative services (payroll/risk/benefits) organization. Through this division of Ethan Allen, they oversee compliance & hiring for more than 2500 employees.  They also advise our clients on correct background checking procedures.
