No one loves an innovator more than Hudson Valley manufacturers and that is why we are excited to have had, and to share, this conversation with Dr. Jonah Schenker, Deputy Superintendent at Ulster BOCES. Jonah’s thoughts on learning and teaching – and the work he and the team at Ulster BOCES are doing – are creative, innovative, and having positive impacts on students.
This episode Council of Industry President Harold King speaks with Dr. Jonah Schenker, Deputy Superintendent at Ulster BOCES.
Jonah’s own educational journey was far from typical and, while he eventually earned his PhD At SUNY New Paltz, he made many stops, held many positions and experienced much of the world before he got there. His journey has given him insights into how people (both young and old) learn, and how best to teach them. He helped found the Hudson Valley Pathways Academy which is the P-Tech School the Council of Industry and our members partner with to promote careers in Advanced Manufacturing. He served as the Academy’s first Principal and helped establish the “Industry Challenges” that have proven so successful in bridging the gap between schools and industry.
Harold and Jonah talk about his educational journey and career path, what he learned from the founding of the Pathways Academy, the impact of COVID on Career and Tech education, What we can take away from the remote learning that has taken place and what it takes for educators to develop individuals who are curious, independent life-long learners and also good human beings.
We hope you enjoy.
