Fundamentals of Leadership

Description:

This session takes managers and supervisors on a two day journey that begins with a discussion of the difference between leadership and management. This discussion sets the stage for a program that allows participants to identify their own leadership style and gain tools and techniques to make their individual strengths most effective. Attendees complete the DiSC Classic Profile, a non judgmental personality tool for understanding their behaviors as a leader. Leaders use this knowledge to understand behavior across four primary dimensions.

DiSC Profile information creates a baseline for exploration of skills and techniques to enhance leadership effectiveness including:

  • Individual approaches in response to different workplace talents.
  • Communication styles of effective leaders.
  • Building a team through targeted recruitment and interviewing.
  • The essentials for establishing expectations.
  • Solving common problems.· Delegating to get things done.
  • Managing employee performance to achieve goals.

Participants leave with specific steps that they can take to impact their team and organization.

Best Practices & Continuous Improvement

SolidWorks Essentials

This five day, hands on course, presented by CADimensions, is for those who wish to have a good fundamental understanding of SolidWorks. It will cover all the basics, from part modeling, creating assemblies, and general design drawings and detailing. The course is weighted towards part design. This course is supported by SUNY Workforce Development Grant funding for members of the Council of Industry. The regular cost per seat is $1500; your cost through this program is $350 per seat.

Effective Business Communication

Environmental Safety & Health Risk Management for Supervisors

The Council of Industry will offer this informative course to provide frontline supervisors with the parameters of good environmental, health and safety practices necessary for their manufacturing operations. This core course identifies issues that all supervisors and managers need to understand to better monitor and position their environmental, health and safety programs, including the following topics:


• Overview of threshold working conditions triggering OSHA health and safety training       requirements, such as respiratory protection, confined spaces, hazard communication, fall protection, emergency planning and lockout/tagout.
• Hazardous waste management, storage and disposal criteria.
• Petroleum and Chemical storage tank registration, testing and labeling standards
• Operations needing air permits in the State of New York.
• Water and wastewater considerations.
• A review of EH&S economic risk management strategy, including discussion of energy conservation, waste minimization and greenhouse gas regulation trends.

DOT Hazardous Materials Training

Dates: September 20, 2012*

Description: The DOT Hazardous Material training will address the following topics: Overview of Hazardous Materials regulations, Definition of Hazardous Material, How to properly name a Hazardous Material, How to package, label and prepare manifest for Hazardous Materials Emergency Response.

Who should attend the training?
DOT regulation 49 CFR 172.700 requires that all "hazmat employees" be trained or retrained every 3 years. "Hazmat employees" include anyone who labels, marks, loads/unloads, prepares shipping papers or transports hazardous materials by road, water, rail or air.

RCRA Hazardous Waste Training

Description: The RCRA Hazardous Waste training will include the topics: Overview of RCRA, Definition of Hazardous Waste, Classifications of Hazardous Waste Generators, Requirements of Hazardous, Waste Generators, Container Management, Universal Waste Enforcement, What not to do if you are Inspected? And Site-specific Contingency Planning.

Who should attend the training?
Federal and State regulation require that individuals at facilities classified as Large Quantity Generators of hazardous waste (>1,000 kg/month) involved with the management and handling of hazardous waste (i.e. label drums, transport, etc.) must receive RCRA hazardous waste training on an annual basis.

Blood Borne Pathogens

Description: The content of Blood borne Pathogens will include: An accessible copy and explanation of OSHA's B1910.1030. A general explanation of the epidemiology and symptoms of blood borne diseases; the modes of transmission of blood borne pathogens; the written exposure control plan and how to get a copy; how to recognize events that may involve exposure to blood and other potentially infectious materials; selection, proper use, location, removal, handling, decontamination, and disposal of personal protective equipment; the use and limitations of safe work practices, engineering controls, and personal protective equipment. Also the course would include information on hepatitis B vaccination, such as safety, benefits, efficacy, and availability; the procedures to follow if an exposure occurs, including methods of reporting and the medical follow-up that will be made available; Information on post exposure evaluation and follow-up; and an explanation of information on the warning signs, labels, and color coding.

HAZWOPER

Description: The training will consist of four hours of classroom sessions including presentations, question and answer and video presentations, as well as four hours of hands-on training. This training will include:

Classroom: Overview of HAZWOPER regulations; Health and physical hazards associated with spill response; Toxicology; Risk Assessments (electrical, confined space, heat, noise, etc.); Fire protection; Hazard identification and communications; Personal protective equipment; Hazard control; and Monitoring and Instrumentation.

Hands-on Training: Dress out Level D, C and B personnel protection; Methods of decontamination; Donning/doffing of respirators and their limitations; One drum scenario (recognize labels, reference materials, spill control, PPE selection, plug patch repair and over pack of drum, label over pack); Decontamination and Critique of scenario training.

OSHA 10 Hour General Industry Course

Description: The 10-hour General Industry Outreach Training Program is intended to provide an entry level general industry workers broad awareness on recognizing and preventing hazards on a general industry site. The training covers a variety of safety and health hazards which a worker may encounter at a general industry site. OSHA recommends this training as an orientation to occupational safety and health. Workers will receive additional training on hazards specific to their job. Training will emphasize hazard identification, avoidance, control and prevention.
